Brandon, 3rd St Dam Replacement

Our Brandon Manitoba 3rd street dam job proved to be another specialty project for us. Any time that you are working in flowing water there are risks that must be considered and there were no shortage of them on this project. After monitoring the flows of the Assiniboine River in the fall of 2012, the levels were finally low enough for us to enter the river and begin work. First thing we had to do was demolish and incorporate the existing damn into the base work for the new structure. The river had to be re-routed and isolated to one side in order to start the job. Sheet piles were then put in place and large rock placed up and downstream for support. The project also called for the incorporation of a fish ladder at the North side of the river which needed to be built at a lower elevation than the rest of the structure. After completion of the North side, the river again had to be re-routed in order to do the South side. The whole time fighting rising water levels that were slowly making their way towards us from the release at the Shell Mouth water reservoir. The project was completed on schedule and all parties involved were very pleased with the outcome.
