CITY OF PORTAGE LA PRAIRE
EF Moon Construction completed 3 major projects for the City of Portage La Prairie, starting in 2021 and finishing in 2023.
The first contract was the renewal of water and sewer lines down the main street of Saskatchewan avenue. The existing infrastructure was in very poor condition and in need of
upgrading before the upgrades to Saskatchewan Avenue were to take place. This project consisted of sewer and water line replacement as well as the installation of
manholes service valves, shut offs and fire hydrants. Sewer and water renewals are always very challenging due to the uncertainty of what is under the ground and this project proved to be very difficult at times.
The second contract EF Moon Construction performed was the replacement of the storm drainage system that ran down Saskatchewan Avenue, as well as 5 lines that drained south into Crescent Lake. This was a large diameter pipe that was to be installed very deep in the ground. Existing high-water tables made this project very difficult, and an underground dewatering system was needed to be able to achieve the depth of the pipe that was required. This project also required the installation of catch basins throughout the path of the storm drains.
The 3 rd and final contract for the Saskatchewan Avenue upgrade was the street itself. This project saw a significant improvement to the city’s main road, sidewalks and bike lanes through town. This upgrade was a long time coming and always a topic of interest around town. For this
portion we were subcontracted by Maple Leaf Construction for the road excavation and placement and compaction of base material.
We were very proud to be the major contractor for this upgrade. We take pride in all our projects but this being right at home made it that much better. Although the combination of the 3 projects took a considerable amount of time. The citizens of Portage La Prairie were extremely happy with the final result.
