City of Portage Meter Chamber Rehabilitation 2019

PROJECT COMPLETION:
JANUARY 2020

PROJECT CATEGORY:
SEWER AND WATER INSTALLATIONS

CLIENT:
CITY OF PORTAGE

In the fall of 2019, we were awarded a contract by the City of Portage to perform maintenance and rehabilitation on 5 waterline air release manholes and 2 sewer air release manholes. These manholes are part of the south leg of the City’s sewer and water system, running along the southside of the perimeter highway. The contract also included extension of water services to customers on Yellowquill Trail. Work on the air release chambers included excavation and exposing the manholes, concrete patching of the manholes, backfilling of exposed manholes, lifting and re-setting one of the sewer manholes, new piping at all chambers and new access hatches. The new piping on Yellowquill Drive was installed by directional drilling and included new curb stops, valves and connection to existing watermains. The work began in early November 2019 and was concluded in January 2020. The biggest challenge on the project was locating existing pipe and services as the as-built drawings supplied from previous projects were very much incomplete. The project went relatively smoothly and was completed on schedule.
