Manitoba Water Services Board Town of Carman Watermain Renewals and Supply Line 2020
PROJECT COMPLETION:
OCTOBER 2020
PROJECT CATEGORY:
SEWER AND WATER INSTALLATION
CLIENT:
MANITOBA WATER SERVICES BOARD
We were low bidder on a multi-million-dollar contract with the Manitoba Water Services Board for work in the town of Carman in the fall of 2019. We chose to wait to start the project until the spring of 2020 to avoid cold weather work. The scope of the contract consisted of watermain renewals and upgrades on 9 different streets. It also consisted of a new 2.0-kilometer water supply line running from a new reservoir at the north end of town into the town itself. All new watermain pipe in the town had to be directionally drilled. Along with the pipe renewals we installed new valves, fire hydrants, house services and connected to different parts of their existing infrastructure. The work also included new sidewalks in some areas, new curb and gutter and asphalt patching where required. Renewal work is challenging at the best of times because of existing infrastructure. This project was made more challenging because no as-builts of the existing infrastructure existed. A lot of exploration time was required to find existing watermains for connections and existing sewer mains to avoid damage. Work began in late May 2020 and was completed in mid-October 2020. It was a challenging job but we are proud of the work we did for the town of Carman.
